Ah, the holy grail of retro computer gaming. The smell of a tape as you load it into the deck, the
instinctive tapping in of shift and run/stop and the subsequent brewing of tea as you wait for Uridium
to load. We love this thing here at thegamecollection and still feel that the C64 offers excellent
gaming experiences today.
This one comes in the original box for you to love and cherish forever more. This is the nice and
chunky original brown version that is built like a tank. Drop your your toast on the keyboard: it works.
Let your sister accidentally throw it down the stairs in a fit of rage: it still works.
Experience the thrill off chopping your mates' heads off in Barbarian, blast round a couple of laps
of Pit Stop 2, challenge the evil professor in Impossible Mission and then wash it down with a
mammoth session of The Last Ninja 2. You just don't get that kind of visceral gaming rush from
a blu-ray disc and a wiimote.
Go on, you owe it to yourself. Think you know about games? Get one of these fellas and take it
to the limit. Gaming nirvana.
by Shaun Powell on 11/12/2010This brings back memories, from double dragon and robocop to BASIC programming (my first language) and word processing. Oh how the mighty tape player would entertain us so well between loading screens with 8 bit music and vibrant colours for half an hour.
From what I remember, the pcb in these were actually lined in gold, as it was considered the best conductors, yet sold for cheap as chips (no pun intended), which proved it's success. For the sentiments alone, if still in good condition, could be worth it's price to a museum or collector.
by Antony Blackburn on 04/12/2009Obviously the previous reviewer has no idea and probably too young to understand, anyway this c64 is an apsolute gem with superb classic games with the good old tape loader, if you are into the classic 80s games then this is a must and will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Obviously the graffics is not as good as now but like I say if you like 80s gaming then you will expect this. The price of £244.95 is a little steep but it depends on how much you want an apsolute gem. Personnaly for 80s games I would go for the commodore amiga
