Detective Pikachu Returns isn't the most challenging game, nor the longest, but the plot is fun and earnest and it's a great introduction to mystery games for newcomers. The graphics are a bit of a mess and it might feel a little slow-paced if you've already smashed through most of the mystery game genre, but it's a charming little game, bursting with heart, and packed with Pokemon for franchise fans.

Welcome to Ryme City
The patch patrolled by the renowned sleuthing duo is Ryme City – a picturesque metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side-by-side. During their investigations, they’ll visit a swanky manor, ancient ruins, and more – not forgetting the odd trip to Hi-Hat Café for a coffee fix, of course!
Two Heads Are Better than One
Detective Pikachu - A gruff, tough-talking (but surprisingly loveable) Pikachu who loves coffee and calls himself a great detective.
Tim Goodman - Tim’s dad Harry also happens to be Detective Pikachu’s missing partner. This Ryme University student is also the only person who can understand and talk to the coffee-quaffing, private eye directly.

Search for clues - Investigate your surroundings and examine suspicious areas for evidence to help you get to the bottom of your current caper.
Interview witnesses - It’s always important to speak to bystanders, including people and Pokémon alike! Tim interviews the humans, while Detective Pikachu can talk to the Pokémon residents of Ryme City.
Piece it all together - Use your powers of deduction – and your handy case notebook - to analyse the clues and testimony you’ve unearthed to crack the case!
Help from the locals
You can also enlist the help of a handful of Pokémon throughout the investigation. Take control of Detective Pikachu directly as he hops aboard friendly characters and use their abilities to hunt for evidence!
