Our gamescom 2026 Experience: The Biggest Reveals and Highlights

Elan |

Gamescom 2026 has officially wrapped up, and after an action-packed few days in Cologne, we're looking back at some of our favourite moments from one of the biggest events in the gaming calendar.

From huge announcements during Opening Night Live to getting hands-on with some of the most anticipated games coming soon, there was plenty to keep us busy. And while the show floor was packed with things to see and do, the team certainly made the most of the experience – with a little help from Red Bull along the way!

Opening Night Live: The Games That Stole the Show

Before the doors even opened, gamescom got off to a huge start with Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley. The showcase featured more than 50 announcements, trailers and updates, with some seriously exciting games making an appearance.

There were plenty of games that caught our attention, but these were some of our biggest highlights.

Gears of War: E-Day

One of the biggest highlights for us was Gears of War: E-Day.

Taking the series back to the beginning, E-Day explores the infamous Emergence Day invasion and the origins of the war against the Locust. The latest trailer gave us another look at the devastating events that shaped the Gears of War universe, with Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago once again at the centre of the action.

With the original Gears of War celebrating its 20th anniversary, the return to E-Day feels particularly fitting. The game is set to launch on 6 October 2026, exclusive to Xbox Series X. Available for pre-order now.

Final Fantasy VII: Revelation

Another huge moment came with Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.

The latest trailer showcased more of the adventure ahead, including the Highwind, submarine sequences and some of the series' iconic Weapons. With the trilogy heading towards its conclusion, anticipation is understandably high.

It's currently targeting a Spring 2027 release, making it one of the biggest RPGs to emerge from gamescom this year.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past

Just when we thought The Witcher 3 had given us everything it could, CD Projekt Red had another surprise.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past is a brand-new story expansion coming in 2027, bringing Geralt back for another adventure. A free remastered update for The Witcher 3 was also announced, making this an exciting return to one of gaming's most celebrated RPGs.

Metro 2039

Metro 2039 was another game that immediately caught our attention during Opening Night Live.

The latest gameplay trailer showed off the atmospheric survival horror and shooter elements the series is known for, alongside a new protagonist known as the Stranger. Set across the underground Metro and devastated surface world, it looks set to deliver another tense journey when it arrives in February 2027.

Silent Hill: Townfall

For horror fans, Silent Hill: Townfall was another major highlight.

The latest trailer offered an unsettling look at the upcoming psychological horror experience, which is scheduled to launch on 24 September 2026. With its release just around the corner, it's one of the most immediate games to come out of gamescom.

Stage Tour

One of the more unexpected announcements from Opening Night Live was Stage Tour, a new rhythm-action game from the team behind Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The game combines live music, rhythm gameplay and an impressive lineup of tracks, with players taking to the stage and working their way through a variety of performances.

Releasing on 10 December 2026, the announcement was particularly exciting for us as we've also got the Kramer Guitar version of Stage Tour available to pre-order, giving players the chance to take the experience beyond the controller.

What We Got Up to

Being there in person meant exploring the show floor, checking out some of the biggest stands and getting hands-on with some exciting upcoming games.

A Trip to the Nintendo Stand

One of the highlights was checking out the Nintendo stand, where we spotted something particularly exciting for fans of a certain classic space-faring franchise: Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2.

Hands-On with The Blood of Dawnwalker

Jack also managed to get hands-on with The Blood of Dawnwalker, playing the demo at gamescom.

Developed by Rebel Wolves, the action RPG is set in a dark 14th-century fantasy world and follows Coen, a young man transformed into a Dawnwalker as he attempts to save his family.

Following the recent release of the game on 3 September 2026, getting the chance to play it just ahead of launch was a great addition to the trip.

Checking Out Planted!

We also stopped by the Planted! stand from our parent company, Curveball Games, to see the game showcased at Gamescom.

It was great to see Planted! represented at such a huge event alongside some of the biggest names in gaming, and seeing Curveball Games' title on the show floor was a particular highlight for us.

And Then There Was Metro 2039...

After seeing Metro 2039 during Opening Night Live, Jack wasn't going to let the opportunity to play it pass by.

So, naturally, he queued up.

And waited.

Eventually, the wait paid off, and Jack got to experience Metro 2039 for himself – making all those hours exploring the gamescom show floor (and the Red Bull-fuelled energy) worthwhile!

That's a Wrap!

From blockbuster announcements and surprise reveals to getting hands-on with some of the biggest upcoming games, gamescom 2026 gave us plenty to talk about. Watch our recap reel over on Instagram!

And after a few busy days in Cologne, we're already looking forward to doing it all again next year.

Until next time, gamescom!
